EYE SPY AUTUMN 2021

Yin and yang, masculine and feminine, antique and modern, town and country... Autumn is about finding a new balance, in our lives and in our homes.

Achieving balance requires a unique talent. Here are six designers who are truly masters of the mix. I love spying my work in their gorgeous spaces, and catching a glimpse of their clients’ luxurious lives! We can all be cultivators of good taste and great design.

I spy a Block Fire Screen...

styled by Melanie Turner Interiors, featured in Luxe Magazine Atlanta.

This library is decidedly masculine, with the stag print above the fireplace, clean lines and monochromatic aura. But the surprise addition of dusty lavender adds a feminine balance. The subtle effect of the fire screen feet echoing the horizontal lines of the shelves and chandelier is truly captivating.

I spy two Frederik Chairs...

styled by Fabiola Martens, featured in Home and Design DC.

Ms. Martens was born in Belgium, and her mix of classical and modern elements is a brilliant combination of European and American influences. Here she takes the color palette of the year, grey and yellow, and infuses it with warmth and elegance.

I spy a Piet Fire Screen...

styled by Kristi Will Design, featured in Luxe Magazine San Francisco.

"We appreciate the beauty in things, but also want to be comfortable" said Ms. Will's client. She more than delivered, with an impeccably luxurious seating area in cozy sepia tones, that balances beauty and comfort with style.

I spy the Pyrite Dining Table...

styled by Jamie Herzlinger, featured in Detroit Style Magazine.

Dynamic, romantic, inviting, lush... just some of the adjectives I would use to describe Ms. Herzlinger's masterful mix of textures, with the velvet two-toned upholstery echoing the matte bronze finish of the statement dining table.

I spy the Mercer Credenza in Mother-Of-Pearl...

styled by Scott Sanders, featured in Florida Design Magazine.

Seventeen layers of pale blue lacquer on the walls, and gorgeous tonal accents, elevated with matte gold and a stunning custom buffet in mother-of-pearl. A gorgeous tribute to coastal living, and the Ocean Blue.

I spy the Vestal fire screen in Polished Bronze

Styled by Alberto Villalobos, on Instagram, in Katonah, NY.

Mr. Villalobos proves that balance can be incredible exciting. Look at how he has mixed contemporary pieces and antiques; a wide range of cultural influences; and even neutrals and color. That ombre staircase is divine!

Designer, what elements do you like to balance or concentrate on through your home design?

And remember, it's also important to balance work with free time, especially with the holidays coming up.

Keep happy, stay healthy!
